One afternoon, on the way home from work, Ginagot caught in a horrible rainstorm. It was pouring outside, and she didn't have an umbrella or anything else to cover her head. She decided to get out of the rain and wait out the storm. In front of her was a little coffee shop.

某个下午，吉娜在下班回家的路上遇上了一场很大的暴风雨。外面倾盆大雨，而她又没带伞或其他东西来遮头。她决定避雨等到这场暴风雨停止再说。在她前面有一家咖啡店。

She found a table and ordered a cup of coffee. She enjoyed sitting there in that little coffee shop, listening to the soothing music. Just as the waitress brought her coffee, it stopped raining. However, the atmosphere in the coffee shop was so cozy that she decided to stay there and have dinner until it was very late at night.

她找了一个桌子便点了一杯咖啡。她喜欢坐在小咖啡店里同时聆听抒情的音乐。正当女服务生端咖啡来的时候，雨停了。不过咖啡店的氛围太舒适了，因此她决定待在那儿吃晚餐，直到深夜才离开。

a. 介绍''... so + adj. / adv. + that...''（……如此……以致……）的句型及其用法：

上列句构中so 是副词，表''如此地''、''那么地'' ，故之后应接形容词或副词

以供so 修饰；that 则为副词连词，引导副词从句，修饰副词so ，此时that

可译作''以致''、''因此'' 。

例:

Mary is sobeautiful thatevery boy who sees her is crazy about her.

玛丽如此漂亮，以致见到她的每个男孩子都为她疯狂。

Peter studied sohardthat he passed the math test with flying colors.

彼得好用功，因此他数学考考得非常好。

本课最后一句就使用了''... so + adj. +that...'' 的结构：

不过，咖啡店的氛围那么舒适，因此她决定待在那里吃晚餐直到深夜才离开。

b. ''...such + 名词+ that...'' 亦表''如此的…… ，以致……'' ，由于such 视作形容词，故之后只能置名词。 that 仍是副词连词，引导副词从句，修饰such ，此时that亦译作''以致''、''因此'' 。

例:

约翰是那么勤奋的员工，因此他的老板很欣赏他。
